      <image:title>Projects - Light and Shadow</image:title>
<image:caption>This objective of this project was to design a crematorium on Alcatraz Island. My approach was to re-purpose the existing building, reconfigure the space by carving the program out of the cell walls. I created a visual journey for each funeral party to transition as the mourners pass through the main bays. The space transforms as the walls shift from narrow somber passage ways to wider and more expansive rooms. The semi-private, yet open plan of the ceremony halls, allows for the opportunity to make mourning a less solitary experience, while still giving room for each party to have their own ceremony and say goodbye with their loved ones.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Curves</image:title>
<image:caption>In this introductory studio, we explored design through cases studies, diagramming, and gesture models. We examined the ways in which architects break from linear design, envisioning walls, ceiling and floors beyond vertical or horizontal planes. The studio project was set on a site in Golden Gate Park. The program included a community center, an art studio, a café and classrooms. My design explored qualities of light, curves and varied wall thicknesses to create an organic and spacious feel for the building. The only vertical walls are the exterior walls, which create a contrast between the interior and exterior space.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Wall Section</image:title>
<image:caption>Designing the façade of a three story building, with balconies, parapet, sunshades and guardrail, afforded me an understanding of how the elements of construction drawings are coordinated to clearly describe a building project. The wall section and its related elevations, plans, and details provide a significant description of a building. Through developing this project, I developed a higher level of competence in the technical aspects of architectural design and improved my fluency with AutoCAD.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Design Process</image:title>
<image:caption>Through creating drawings of my apartment, I learned how to relate a two-dimensional representation to three-dimensional space and strengthened the fundamental skills of two-dimensional hand drafting. This project developed a solid understanding of the orthographic conventions of plan, section, and elevation. While hand drafting was the focus of this course, special attention was paid to developing mastery and understanding of line weight, dimensions and architectural notation that would directly relate to digital representation as well.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Shifting Planes</image:title>
<image:caption>This project’s unique challenge was to design a dance studio, school and performance hall on a small lot on Stanton Street in San Francisco. The design challenge was to be open and inviting to the public, yet secure. Various spaces were designated as private (for school use), semi-private (visible) and public (for visitors). Two entrances and two elevator banks, on either side of the building, allow for the monitoring of users entering the private and public levels. The program includes a cafe, store, a performance hall, classrooms, locker rooms and support space. The store and cafe are situated on the ground level for public use. The auditorium is located on the highest floor to allow for views of the neighborhood and accessibility on one side by students, and on the other side by visitors.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Projects - Nature's Community Classroom</image:title>
<image:caption>This thesis explores how the built environment can facilitate learning, inspire curiosity and engage students. The focus is on designing spaces that best support teaching practices and varied learning styles. Integrated building design can be used to foster effective teaching methods and sustainable learning habits. The site, Candlestick Point Park, provides opportunities for hands-on real-world activities and community involvement, which are central to this schools’ philosophy. The school is situated in the context of the natural environment as hands-on experiences and observations are integral across all subjects.</image:caption>
